Abstract

The objective of this Forum is to extend the participation in the overall R&D activities within the Networked Media field, to all those experts who belong to different constituencies and who may express opinions and views based on their individual knowledge. This new Open Networked Media discussion Forum is a permanent think tank anticipating ideas, views, and expressing comments about how NEM, Networked Media and the new super-sector are running. This forum is based on senior experts (mostly those working in NEM Institutions), with strategic profiles rather than research profile, whose opinions are be sought as a complement to other corporate or R&D Institutions positions and visions.
This type of Forum was demonstrated as crucial to promote attention from high level staff of industries when launching NEM and therefore it is considered as an efficient mechanism to group the overall interests of networked media in an open discussion forum.

Objectives

The consensus to define Vision and Strategic Research Agenda in the NEM field is currently reached through discussions among experts representing NEM members, who propose and defend the views of industries and their strategic medium-long term visions.
In order to complement and feed with additional independent thinking, not constrained by the strategic industrial interests, a Networked Media Open discussion Forum (The NEM Forum) was proposed. The Forum is composed by regular members of NEM, and individual experts that will bring into theForum their individual Knowledge.
NEM collects views and opinions from individuals, who would complement NEM which represents widely the industrial views legitimately biased for the benefit of industries.
This Networked Media Open discussion Forum is a permanent think tank anticipating ideas, views, and expressing comments about how NEM, Networked Media and the new super-sector (as called by sectoral Associations to the Media sector) are running. This forum is based on senior experts (mostly those working in NEM Institutions), with strategic profiles rather than research profile, whose opinions will be sought as a complement to other corporate or R&D Institutions positions and visions.

Open Media Forum Organization

The Networked Media Open discussion Forum is carried out through meetings organized and promoted by FutureNEM targeting specific comments on points in the SRA and NEM Vision, of current interest to projects like regulation, financing, competition, priorities, etc. At each meeting, the members are given presentations and demonstrations by individual Projects on key technologies, and presentations from the FutureNEM team. The Forum has then starting material to launch discussions.
Last physical meeting of the Open Media Forum was held in Barcelona on October 2010 at the time of the NEM Summit 2010. Notes on the discussions held at this meeting could be found below. Discussion document distributed among Open Media Forum members to stimulate the debates has been also uploaded.
